OUTREACH ACTIVITIES

Kadir Has University is committed to promoting lifelong learning by offering free access to educational resources for individuals outside the university community. Through various initiatives, such as Summer and Winter Schools, Open Courses, and Social Responsibility Projects, the university seeks to extend learning opportunities to a broader audience. Additionally, programs like the Kadir Has University Teacher Academy and the High School Student Academy are tailored to specific groups, fostering educational growth for teachers and high school students. The university also organizes Family on Campus activities and seminars by the Rector and faculty members, creating a welcoming environment for learning that reaches beyond traditional academic boundaries. These efforts embody the university's dedication to social responsibility and accessible education, empowering individuals of all ages to pursue knowledge and personal development.

Additionally, some of these outstanding students were offered opportunities to work as assistants or were assigned to research projects.

The Kadir Has High School Summer and Winter School program is open to both high school and university students, providing valuable learning experiences and academic recognition.

OPEN COURSES

Open-to-Public Courses are offered periodically each semester. In 2023, sessions were organized for both the Spring and Fall terms. The Spring course, titled “Manisa, Aydın, Denizli: Dinamolar!”, marked the 16th Public Lecture, while the Fall course, marked the 17th Public Lecture, titled “H. Ibsen and P. Claudel: The Guilt, Fears, and Enlightenment of the Upper-Middle Class”, provided critical insights into societal issues. These online lectures were held on Wednesdays from 20:00 to 22:00.

Open-to-public courses typically include a variety of in-class activities, such as readings, exams, and presentations. Additionally, depending on the course topic, there may be off-campus activities, including guided tours and on-site sessions. These courses also aim to create a collective research output intended for submission to academic journals, thus involving the public in active research processes. Recordings of completed open courses are uploaded to the university website, making them accessible to the broader public.

SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY PROJECTS

Social responsibility projects initiated by Kadir Has University faculties and departments, student clubs, students and graduates form another indispensable source of outreach activities. As part of the KHAS New Education Model, students of Core Program take civic responsibility courses (KHAS 110 Civic Responsibility Project & KHAS 120 Civic Responsibility Project for International Students). In these courses, core program students design and implement social responsibility projects to reach out to various communities and publics with the aim of positive social change.

For instance, the students carried out activities for Fatih Kırımlı Aslanbey Primary School 1st-4th grade students in Fener. Working groups were formed and paired with a primary school branch and the students met with children from the branch they were paired with in their fortnightly field studies. In some weeks, in-class activities were organised in the primary school (Dodo Reads Books, Dodo Tells Tales, origami, playground painting, free play hours in the school garden), while in other weeks, students from the primary school came to the university accompanied by their teachers and participated in the activities organised by the students taking the course at the university (film screenings in the school cinema hall, a visit to the Rezan Has Museum, origami exhibition). In addition, books for children were collected from the "book tree" established at the university and donated to the primary school. Before the fieldwork started, an expert psychologist from the association gave online trainings to the students on communicating with children, effective reading techniques, and body language.
